Rooted Vacation

August 11, 2013 § 8 Comments

cloudskayaksfenced inIt’s been a while, hasn’t it?

I’ve been home for a full week now and I only have one week left. I’ve been relaxing in the comforts of the home I grew up in. I’ve been really happy. I’m currently taking yoga classes at this amazing studio that only offers heated classes (ranging from vinyasa to power, and of course, bikram). I’m definitely seeing some results with my mood and fitness (even if I have bad days, I’m grateful I get to practice).

I spent a really great day trip with my family yesterday in Mendocino County. I wrote about this charming region in California in an article on Trekity, Four Secret Ways to Explore Mendocino County. Going there was high on my list of priorities to say the least.

The drive going there and the local sights were so beautiful. I am also convinced that just about everything is much more beautiful when things are just barely waking up.

We went on a ride on the world famous Skunk Train, walked around Glass Beach, and went to see some historical artifacts at the Guest House Museum. I wish I got to stay for longer! Next time, I’m definitely going kayaking.

This is in no way a perfect expression of vrksasana. Don’t be fooled by my smile. I’m absolutely terrified of somehow falling into the ocean in this picture (which is something that would happen to me). The kid behind me was so brave. He was jumping and running around the rocks at Glass Beach as if he had spent his whole life there.

Anyway, thanks for reading! Until next time.

Thrift & Six Flags

August 1, 2013 § 4 Comments

I’ve had a busy couple of days trying to spend some time with my boyfriend before I head home for two weeks.

On Tuesday my boyfriend and I went thrifting at a local Saver’s. I got a couple of good things for under just $10!

thrifting The tan tank is from bebe and I thought it was so… sexy. The black long tank on the right is sadly not long enough to be a dress but I’ve been very inspired by Eat, Pray, Love lately so I bought it.

The black tank on the left has a really delicate lace detail in the middle of the neckline which makes it absolutely lovely and unique. The bright pink tank on the right is from Express and thought it would be perfect for yoga.

shopping

I also bought myself my first ever beanie! It is also the only California related paraphernalia that I own and I’m glad that it’s something as simple as a beanie.

The last thing I’ve accumulated from this week and is also my favorite thing is a watch that my boyfriend got me. I’m pretty sure I will treasure this baby forever.

Yesterday, I went to Six Flags Magic Mountain for the first time. It was really hot. Surprisingly, I’m not as jazzed about roller coasters as I used to be. Maybe I’m getting old…

Here’s what I wore to Six Flags. It was comfy and light weight which was perfect for the heat. I wish Vans were easier to walk around in for long periods of time but they’re pretty much my only sneakers.

After Six Flags, my boyfriend and I went to eat dinner at one of my favorite restaurants in LA county. I highly recommend eating at Lemonade if you’re ever near one of their locations.

Goodbye for now

July 28, 2013 § 2 Comments

This past Friday was the last day of volunteering for the international students program and all of the students from Taiwan, China, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Mexico had to leave.

It was quite gloomy and humid with on and off rain which was fitting for the circumstances. ootd

Top from the Philippines | Maxi skirt from Goodwill | Shoes (not pictured) are from a brand called Chinese Laundry

I’m a bit stuck in my seat right now to take a picture of my shoes but here is what I’ve been enjoying today…

kombucha

This is by far my favorite green drink. It’s not made of a bunch of vegetables but instead it’s made of raw kombucha and some super foods. The taste does take some getting used to but I always feel amazing after I finish it even the day after. I’m also in the process of tasting the other flavors but this is by far my favorite.

So I guess that’s it! I’ll leave you with some pictures of me and some of the students I’ve had the pleasure of laughing with.

Can’t say I didn’t go to the beach this summer…

July 14, 2013 § 2 Comments

Yesterday I got up early to drive all the way to Irvine and then to Laguna Beach to eat at a delicious restaurant. Afterwards we did various things like hiking and going to the beach. It was all fun and games until the sun burnt us… For more information about what to do in Laguna Beach other than go to the beach, then stay tuned on Trekity as I’ll be writing something about that there.

But! Here is what I wore walking around Laguna Beach…ootdLightweight sweater from Pac sun | Underneath I’m wearing a caged bralette from Brandy Melville | Running tights by Champion from Target | Shoes (though not pictured) are from Nike from like six years ago | My backpack is from Timbuk2 and it’s the best backpack ever

We spent a while hiking through Crystal Cove State Park specifically El Moro. I realized that I’m terrified of walking down slopes because I don’t want to fall and roll away into a bush with snakes in it or, of course, die. But the beach was good fun, until I got sunburnt. I wasn’t sunburnt yet in this picture, but I definitely did when I changed into my swim suit.

This is a picture of my best friend after our hike. Isn’t Laguna Beach gorgeous? I wish I could go every day (but better prepared than yesterday). Surprisingly, I’m not sore and I’m a little mad about it. Haha!

Please check the article on Trekity out. I’ll let you guys know when it does (;

Until next time!

Hot, Hot Desert Sun

It’s +100 degrees Fahrenheit here in the desert and I have to say, it is pretty darn H-O-T!

Just as luck would have it, the air conditioning in my apartment broke. It literally makes the apartment warmer when it’s turned on. I had to go to good ol’ Target to get a fan but it’s not enough! I had to get my boyfriend to bring the fans from his room over… there are three fans going on in my room.

What do you do to beat the heat?

It’s my first southern California summer but I find myself wishing I was on the northern side of the state because summers there are a lot less fierce.

Until next time!

Hitting the Thrift

It’s been hot here in Riverside. But I can’t seem to let go of wearing jeans! They’re so comfy. Here’s what I wore the other day as I didn’t have the time to take a picture of my outfit yesterday. I also realize that this is the first picture I’m posting of my face(even if you can’t really see it well), so hello!

Yesterday, I went thrifting with my boyfriend at our local Savers. We spent two hours there, perhaps even more. There were a couple good things for the ladies but I wasn’t much up for scouring the racks because I had told myself to stay true to my $20 budget. My boyfriend, however, found a bunch of stuff and walked away from our little excursion with two big bags filled with goodies. I think we might even be going back on Monday because it’ll be 50% off all clothing items… We’re addicted.

Here is what I thrifted…

thrift finds

  • The floppy(?) hat has no brand and it was $1.99 which I thought was a total steal! It doesn’t fit perfectly around my head because I have a huge head of hair. But, that didn’t keep me from buying it.
  • The oversized polka dot shirt is from a brand called Karen Scott was $4.99. I decided to cut around three inches off the bottom to accommodate my size.
  • The pants are from Levi’s, super high waisted, and could be worn as boyfriend jeans because of the way the ankle is cut. It only cost me $4.99! But I’m still contemplating if I should keep them the way they are or turn them into shorts.
  • Finally, my pride and joy, the pleated skirt. I’ve been looking for the perfect pleated skirt for what seems like forever. This is from a brand called Angel and was the most expensive item I bought at $7.99.

I signed up or bloglovin’ so please, follow my blog with Bloglovin! I also plan on posting something about how my room is set up over the summer. So, stay tuned for that. Until next time :3
